Local Eatery Review – The East Branch Inn

“A good restaurant is like a vacation; it transports you, and it becomes a lot more than just about the food.”

Philip Rosenthal

We recently dined at the East Branch Inn, located in Heuvelton, NY. As always, it was a delightful experience, and just what we needed to break the monotony of the never-ending snowy days.

I was already expecting great food, because I’ve been here a couple of times. But still, I am always impressed with not only the menu, but also the charm and hospitality. Chef/owner Mike Charlton and his crew raise the North Country dining experience to a whole new level.

Ambiance

Where do I begin? The ambiance of this place is amazing! From the moment you walk in the front door, the vibe is one of comfort and warmth.

You are greeted with enthusiasm and quickly seated in one of the the rustic, yet classy dining areas.

The versatility here is impressive! This is a perfect place for formal dinners and special occasions, like proms and other celebrations. But also, there are ample accommodations for all types of diners, to include snowmobilers stopping in for a quick burger and fries. This is also a family-friendly restaurant.

Our server is always knowledgeable, accommodating, and very personable. She helped me select gluten-free options with ease, and even has an uncanny ability to know what I am going to choose!

The Bar

Everyone who has been out to diner with me knows that I always ask for the restaurant’s signature drink. So imagine my thrill to learn they have several signature drinks! They blow this concept out of the water by posting Tik Tok videos on their Facebook page. The bar tender shows you how to make each drink with his clever “Make a Drink With Me” Tik Tok videos!

Don’t get me going on this guy! He is a drink-conjuring rock star! He certainly has panache!

These days I’m a wine drinker and I always order William Hill Cabernet Sauvignon. Better make that a bottle for the table! 🍷

The bar room has ample seating, with raised tables, booths, and a huge television screen.

Menu

The East Branch Inn offers a vast menu with additional nightly specials.

Speaking of nightly specials, they are all delicious! I’m not joking. The last time we ate here, my sisters practically arm-wrestled for the last helping of seafood paella! It was off-menu for the night, but chef Mike was very accommodating, just the same!

They have everything from burgers to elegant cuts of meat and seafood! In addition, there is a kid’s menu.

I started my meal with a salad. Their salads are the the freshest of anywhere I’ve ever dined in the north country. Top that off with the home made chunky blue cheese dressing, and I was in heaven, on just the salad alone!

I chose the shrimp with mushroom/scallop risotto, and tarragon pesto. The vegetable was a perfectly braised yellow and zucchini squash medley. It was delicious! I might order this meal every time I dine here!

This was to die for!

Desserts

Vanilla Cappuccino Crème Brûlée

If you are a dessert person this is the place for you! I ordered the creme brûlée. It was delicious! Check out The East Branch Inn Facebook page and I guarantee your mouth will be watering after looking at the photos of all their freshly prepared confections!

I plan to become a regular at The East Branch Inn, my new favorite north country restaurant!
