Relax. It’s Summer!

One of the great things about summers on the St. Lawrence River is that it is a perfect place to relax. I am retired from my profession and my children are grown. I live with my life-long soul mate. I have plenty of time to kick back all summer long.

Close your eyes. Take a deep breath; listen to nature’s symphony. Summertime has never been better!

I love to start the day watching ships and fishing boats from the deck with a cup of hot coffee. Eh, who am I trying to fool? I actually drink a whole pot! After breakfast, a long walk on a trail with our pooch is a must.

Hey, what’s up? I’m ready for my walk now!

Summer days are spent doing a combination of housework, yard work, and running errands. Also, preparing for evening soirées is a ritual I truly enjoy!

Keeping the smallest circle of close friends allows for fun-filled, low stress entertaining. We also enjoy occasional evenings out at our local haunts. We treat each day like a holiday! We’ve been blessed with the best neighbors and we get to see them out on the river every day!

It’s the little things that matter the most – tasting the first ripe tomato from my husband’s bountiful garden, the joy on my daughter’s face when she is with her husband, watching my dog chase a butterfly in the yard. They all put a smile on my face.

On the hottest of days, a quick dip in the river is all that is needed to cool off and feel refreshed. The water is crisp and clear, and the current is calm. Gentle waves from the seaway ships and pleasure crafts are always welcome.

Enjoy every moment that Mother Nature has to offer while the days are long, warm and sunny.

Take Advantage of Summer Evenings

Watch the spectacular sunsets while sipping a glass of wine. Witness the day slowly changing into the night with the haunting wail of a common loon over a backdrop of peepers and crickets. Watch a great blue heron land on a dock to eat one last fish before calling it a night. Take in the intoxicating aroma of the evening campfires, along the quiet shores of the river. Watch the incessant line of seagulls flying back to seagull island, the place everyone talks about, but no one seems to know where it is!

Every year I fall in love anew with the summers on the mighty St. Lawrence River.

Thanks for joining me. -Barb, the River Blogger (Btrb)

  1. The St. Lawrence River definitely looks like the perfect place to spend the summer and relax, enjoy the fresh air, and watch the sun set. Sounds like you are living your best life in retirement.

    • We do enjoy it on the St. Lawrence! And we’re about to enjoy it even more, soon, because the US/Canada border will finally be opening! We have so many places to visit, including our favorite restaurant in Brockville, On!
